Pollution incidents often occur in our watercourses, spelling disaster for life in the river and impacting the marine environment. Regular monitoring is the best way of identifying such incidents early and enabling a rapid response. We are looking to build a team of volunteers to carry out monthly surveys to monitor the presence of certain insect species to protect water quality. This work is part of the Riverfly Partnership, a network of organisations working together on this cause.
Booking is ESSENTIAL for this training event – please call Iain barker on 07944 506310 or John Meakin on 07880746379 to secure your space soon. To cover the cost of training packs and certificates, there is a charge of £10, payable on the day. You will need to bring waterproofs, wellies/waders, lunch/money for the local café.
The Angler’s Riverfly Monitoring Initiative (ARMI) was launched by the Riverfly Partnership in 2007 to enable anglers and other interested groups to actively monitor and protect their local rivers. It helps rivers to be monitored more widely and at greater frequency than is possible by the Environment Agency alone. The Riverfly data held by each river group will also allow for long-term changes to be identified, and the regular presence of volunteers on the river will discourage potential polluters.
