IMG_3201When: Tuesday 28 May 12.30 – 4.30 pm

Where:  Old Sardine Factory Heritage Centre, West Looe, PL13  2BZ

Come and join us on May 28 for the launch of our #throwjellynotballoons campaign. We’re holding a Seaweed Jelly Bonanza to encourage the use of environmentally benign jelly as a substitute for balloon water bombs traditionally thrown at water carnivals and raft races.

Seaweed Jelly Bonanza!

IMG_0682The highlight of the afternoon will be throwing jelly made from seaweed at kayakers and paddle boarders in the Looe River as a rehearsal for Looe’s annual Raft Race on Sunday June 9.  Ben Palmer of the Old Sardine Factory Restaurant has made a step by step video showing you how to make your own seaweed jelly. You can measure out your own agar powder for making seaweed jelly at home in time for the Raft Race.

Seaweed Jelly Bonanza Programme

  • 12.30 Book Reading by Ellie Jackson, Looe based author of children’s books on marine pollution
  • Colouring Competition
  • Marine Arts & Crafts
  • 1.30 Jelly Bath Sensory Play Activity
  • 2.30 Seaweed Jelly Bonanza – throwing jelly at kayakers in the Looe River below
  • 3.30 Seaweed Pressing

AgarfacebookThrow Jelly Not Balloons

Last year’s Throw Jelly Not Balloons campaign was 100% successful in preventing water-balloon litter at Looe’s raft race.  This year, our takeover event at the Old Sardine Factory is designed to help visitors learn more about the issues of marine plastic and share the campaign message ‘Throw Jelly Not Balloons’.

So please come along and to help stop water balloons entering the sea at water regattas across the county and beyond. You can read more about our campaign on our Throw Jelly Not Balloons blog!
